SoMi Art Fair at Bachman's brought to you by the Uptown Art Fair

SoMi Art Fair at Bachman’s

A cherished tradition for over 60 years, the Uptown Art Fair is reimagining its format and location and announcing the SoMi (South Minneapolis) Art Fair in partnership with Bachman’s at their flagship location on Lyndale Avenue. The event will take place in the Bachman’s parking lot off Lyndale Avenue and features over 300 juried artists, art demonstrations, live music, and food.

“This exciting evolution marks a pivotal moment for the Uptown Art Fair, reflecting its resilience and commitment to adapting to the complexities of hosting large-scale urban events while addressing the changing needs of the community.,” said Jill Osiecki, director of Uptown Art Fair.  “The SoMi Art Fair will also serve as a critical fundraiser for the Uptown Association, helping to sustain future programming and ensure ongoing support for the Uptown neighborhood.”

This shift comes in response to ongoing reconstruction and the redesign of Hennepin Avenue, coupled with the significant rise in production costs. In light of these challenges, the Uptown Art Fair was held at Bachman’s this past summer and was a huge success with both the artists and the community.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Uptown Association again this year as they launch their new SoMi Art Fair at Bachman’s this summer,” said Karen Bachman Thull, director of marketing and communications for Bachman’s. “For 140 years, Bachman’s has been part of the Twin Cities hosting many community events and we look forward to working with the Uptown association as they create a new art experience for the artists, community and our customers.”

Why the Change?

The Uptown Art Fair has traditionally drawn hundreds of thousands of visitors to Hennepin Avenue, transforming the heart of Uptown into a bustling hub of creativity and commerce. However, the logistical challenges posed by the new design of Hennepin Avenue that was unveiled in November 2024 and soaring production costs have made it unrealistic to continue hosting the event in its traditional format.

Why Bachman’s?

Bachman’s has deep roots in the community and offers a unique and beautiful setting for the SoMi Art Fair, that combines the charm of South Minneapolis with the accessibility and ambiance of one of the city’s most iconic locations. Attendees can expect the same high-quality art and community-focused atmosphere that have made the Uptown Art Fair a staple of Minnesota summers, all in a refreshed and innovative environment.

A Fundraiser for Uptown’s Future

Proceeds from the SoMi Art Fair will directly benefit Uptown Minneapolis, supporting events and other community programming and marketing. By attending the SoMi Art Fair, visitors will not only enjoy a memorable weekend immersed in art but also contribute to the revitalization and vibrancy of the Uptown neighborhood.

Alongside the SoMi Art Fair, the Uptown Association is excited to announce additional activations under their Deep Roots, Wide Reach Community Engagement in 2025, aimed at revitalizing the area and enhancing the experience for residents and visitors alike.
